so stop posting to your tumblr every other second with how “out” of it you are
MYTH: “magic mushrooms are poisonous and that’s why you’re tripping, ‘cos you’re poisoned. lol?”
This is a really popular magic mushroom myth and I don’t know why.
You know, technically anything can be poisonous..all depends on how much you ingest. Like we all learned in elementary school: even too much water can fucking kill you!
With that being said. FACT: psilocybin is less toxic than aspirin.
You have to be some sort of idiot if you can’t tell the difference between tripping and poisoning. There are some bodily reactions to magic mushrooms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, but that is because you just ate raw mushrooms. ALL raw mushrooms—whether edible or psychedelic—are indigestible because of the mycochitin present in raw mushrooms. Heating up magic or non-magic mushrooms (either by cooking, boiling, grilling, etc.) makes the mushrooms easier to digest because you’ve broken down the fungi’s cell walls.
So! If someone tells you the reason why you’re tripping off magic mushrooms is because you were poisoned, tell them NO: people trip off psilocybin mushrooms because the body converts psilocybin into psilocin before hitting up the serotonin receptors in your brain and THAT, dumbass, is why you fucking trip.
more info that we have known for ages
Under the influence of mushrooms, overall brain activity drops, particularly in certain regions that are densely connected to sensory areas of the brain. When functioning normally, these connective “hubs” appear to help constrain the way we see, hear and experience the world, grounding us in reality. They are also the key nodes of a brain network linked to self-consciousness and depression. Psilocybin cuts activity in these nodes and severs their connection to other brain areas, allowing the senses to run free.
I guess it’s just funny that people are more inclined to trust a news article than they are an actual person talking about their personal experience.
“What’s often said about psychedelic experience is that people experience a temporary dissolution of their ego or sense of being an independent agent with a particular personality,” he says. “Something seems to happen where the sense of self dissolves, and that overlaps with ideas in Eastern philosophy and Buddhism.” This sense of being at one with the universe, losing one’s “selfish” sense and vantage point, and feeling the connectedness of all beings often brings profound peace.

fuckyeahpsilocybin: what a sad society we live in when it is "news" that magic mushrooms are therapeutic.
people are so out of control of their own lives, they can’t be bothered to experience something for themselves unless the news tells them to.
Haha, I love that video.
I’m also thinking of the Frank Zappa quote:
“If you end up with a boring miserable life because you listened to your mom, your dad, your teacher, your priest, or some guy on television telling you how to do your shit, then you deserve it.”
